The Tryonota Fire Department serves the unincorporated area of western Gaston County, located between Bessemer City, Cherryville, and Kings Mountain. Our team of professional firefighters includes both volunteers and part-time members, all of whom are highly trained and qualified to deliver the highest level of emergency services to our community. We provide a wide range of services, including Fire, Rescue, Medical, and Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) response.

History of the Tryonota Fire Department
The Tryonota Fire Department was established in May 1964 by community members who recognized the need for fire protection in the area. Covering 33 square miles, Tryonota is the second-largest rural fire district in Gaston County. The department operates out of two stations: Station 1, located at the original site on Tryon Courthouse Road, and Station 2, formed in 2003 after Tryonota merged with the Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Department. Station 2 is located at its original site on Chestnut Ridge Church Road.
Tryonota is proud to hold an ISO rating of 4 from the North Carolina Response Rating System, which helps reduce insurance premiums for both homeowners and businesses in our district. Additionally, we are certified as a Light Rescue by the North Carolina Association of Rescue and Emergency Medical Services.
The Origin of the Name “Tryonota”
The name “Tryonota” was inspired by the Tryon High School yearbook, which is located directly across from the station. Initially named the Tryon Volunteer Fire Department, the department decided to change its name during the incorporation process to avoid confusion with the Tryon Fire Department in Polk County. The founders chose the name “Tryonota” for its uniqueness and its strong connection to the community it serves.
